The name Hereessa, also known as Basbousa, is a classic dessert of the Middle East that is made from Semolina and is drenched with sugar syrup.
Ingredients of Basbousa
- 2 Semolina
- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 8-10 Almonds (chopped)
- 1/2 cup butter with melted
- For the Syrup
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Water
- 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 Tbsp dried Rose Petals
How to Make Basbousa
1. Mix the Semolina, sugar, and baking powder in a large bowl.
2. Mix the yogurt and melting butter well to create a thick batter.
3. Place the cake batter in the baking dish greased. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes or until crisp and golden brown.
For Lemon & Rose Syrup :
1. In a saucepan, add lemon extracts, juice sugar, dried rose petals
2. Cook for 5-10 minutes or until the syrup has thickened.
3. Pour the syrup on top of the hot cake and allow it to absorb for at least one hour.
4. Serve immediately following a substantial dinner or as an evening snack paired with a cup of black coffee or tea.
